Rob’s 2011 Top Ten
By Robert Franklin
So 2011 huh?
I guess this year has been a “rebuilding” year for me… but not really…
this was the first whole year without a nice cushy (life draining) job.
I was back in school getting A’s and B’s.
I found a school schedule dictating my day to day life.
I found myself looking for “shifts” to cover rent.
This year has probably been the most fun since…
Well, since myself and a handful of friends picked up instruments, began jamming out tunes we aborted from our heads, in a gutted out trailer in Tuba City, in subzero temperatures.
2011 has been one hell of a year.
I guess I’d like to share the songs that added to every new experience, every new memory, and every new friendship.
Ahem, beginning with the albums that dropped “IN” the year 2011.
10. Wilco – The Whole Love
It took me a few listens to get this one stuck in my head but the drums and keyboard on I Might have camped my drive to the PM shift.
9. We Were Promised Jetpacks – In the Pit of the Stomach
I loved Four Walls and this, this is good.
8. Farewell Continental – Hey, Hey Pioneers!
Ever wonder what Motion City Soundtrack would sound like without all that annoying synth?
and some female vocals?
7. Bomb The Music Industry! – Vacation
I was a huge fan of Scrambles and this is just more BOMB!
6. The Get Up Kids – There Are Rules
I wrote these guys off a long time ago… this made me eat my words.
5. Cobra Skulls – Agitations
This makes me miss the whole Punk scene that I was never really a part of.
4. Death Cab For Cutie – Codes and Keys
I wasn’t a huge fan of Plans.
Narrow Stairs made up for Plans.
Codes and Keys made up for both of those albums…
but… it also makes me miss Postal Service so much more.
3. Bon Iver – Bon Iver
I was never a fan of Bon Iver…
this album snuck in one day when I was writing a paper…
and damn… something about this album makes me feel like I can do anything my mind puts forth, very peacefully.
2. Adele – 21
yep, she done made my list too.
Adele’s voice blows my mind.
if you haven’t heard this album… pfft.
1. Thrice – Major/Minor
you don’t need a written ‘anything’ from me about Thrice.
Just go find this album and press play.
hell, go find any other album Thrice has ever put out for that matter.
what’s wrong with you?
Haha, no Cut Copy, Cage the Elephant, or M83 here.
my list sure isn’t my friends “OMG!” recommendations.
it’s basically just the stuff I enjoyed this year, then boiled down to a smaller list of albums I listened to that happened to come out in the year 2011.
